Frequently Asked Questions

What is Turnstile?
Turnstile is my version of a fast, non-intrusive mobile app for the New York City subway.
It gives you the bare minimum information needed to stay informed about which train(s) to take.
Who is this app for?
This app is for people who know where they're going and just need to know the current status and situation of the subway.
There are several better apps for people who need additional info such as maps, which trains to take to get to a destination, etc.
Why did you build this app?
As a New Yorker, I really wanted an app that gives me the bare minimum information needed to make quick decisions when using the NYC subway.
I loved the original MTA website's service status page, which I used for inspiration for Turnstile's service status screen.
The app train times are inaccurate. What's going on?
I apologize for any inaccurate train times. The app uses the MTA's API, from which I can only pull every minute or so. This means that the train times you see in the app may be a minute or two off from the actual train times. I try my best to accomodate for this!
Will the app support a live route map?
There are no current plans to do so. Truth is, there are several apps that do this much better than I can, and I really wanted to focus on the core functionality of Turnstile: which is to provide quick, easy subway information.
Can I give you feedback?
Please do! I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to make Turnstile a better experience. Feel free to email me at contact@turnstile.city. Looking forward to hearing from you!
